“To build a brighter future, we must continue
to advance the two values that have guided our state from
its founding: an unwavering belief in the power of individual
freedom and an equally strong commitment to the common good.
These two
values do not contradict each other. Rather, they create a
climate in which each one of us is encouraged to achieve our
full potential and each one of us is given the opportunity
to do so.”
-Governor Kathleen Sebelius,
in her 2007 State of the State Address
We believe in:
- Funding a fair and vigorous public education system
- Making available affordable, effective health care for
every family
- Equipping law enforcement with the tools and personnel
necessary to keep our neighborhoods safe
- Providing our soldiers and their families with safe housing,
excellent medical care and the educational or job placement
support they deserve
- Expanding therapeutic stem cell research
- Developing jobs that permit every adult to earn a wage
sufficient to maintain a family
- Fostering the freedom to practice any religion we choose
- Protecting workers from multi-national corporations who
break pension promises
- Bringing relief from the $1 billion dollar/day debt tax
on the federal deficit, which has almost doubled since 2000
- Ensuring that voting is accessible to all, accurate and
verifiable, and secure.
- Reducing carbon emissions by promoting cleaner alternative
energy solutions.
Many of us fought in wars to defend our country, and the
freedoms our Flag symbolizes. We support the men and women
who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and who have already
come home. The rest of our soldiers should come home as soon
as possible.
We
value the rule of law and an independent judiciary, which
guarantees that neither skin color, gender, sexual orientation,
nor family background will control people’s destiny.
Equality of educational and employment opportunity, hard work,
and imagination are the factors which should determine success.
Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson, explaining his decision to change
his affiliation to the Democratic Party, explained:
“I decided I’d rather spend time building great
universities than wondering if Charles Darwin was right.”
If you share this concern, or our concern for the issues listed
above, then we hope you will affiliate with the Democratic
Party, and that you will vote for our candidates.
